Here’s your guide to postpartum fashion essentials every mom should have after having a baby.

Postpartum fashion is something I definitely didn’t prepare for after having my first baby. Going through all of the changes that come along with bringing a baby into the world it was so much to take in that clothes and getting myself looking good was the last thing on my mind.

Looking back I wish I would have given myself (and my body) more grace. If I had prepared a few new postpartum outfits maybe I would have felt a little more myself.

Now that I have been through the fourth trimester a few times I can easily say that getting a few postpartum fashion essentials will help not only your confidence but it will take all the stress out of the thought of squeezing into your pre-baby body clothes when you do need to leave the house.

Focusing on comfort and practicality is so important when it comes to getting dressed postpartum aka breastfeeding friendly and flattering.

Legging are a great gateway to wearing real clothes again (opposed to sweats). When shopping for postpartum leggings I find the highwiasted, compression and fabric on the thicker side are incredible postpartum staples. But it’s easy to fall into a leggings runt. Finding pants to go with your new lifestyle is important to add some variety to your closet. Pants that stretch and preferably have an elastic waistband are ideal.

After having a baby and being sleep deprived you’ll want to be as comfortable as possible. Getting yourself some nice quality loungewear sets can help you feel put together on those rough days.

After having a baby it’s not ideal to try and fit into your pre-baby lace underwear. Instead get some comfy and realistic undergarments. I always opt for high waisted tummy support postpartum undies and breastfeeding friendly bras.

I also highly recommend a belly support band to every postpartum mama, it will help your stomach muscles heal as everything is going back into its place. It’s also great for swelling and back support.

If you’re planning on breastfeeding then you’ll definitely want to prep your wardrobe with some breastfeeding friendly tops. Babies eat often and if you’re living the house you’ll definitely need something with easy access. Anything stretchy, strapless or with buttons will be a go-to.

When I had my first baby I avoided my pre-baby jeans for the longest time because I just knew they wouldn’t fit my postpartum body. I wish someone would have told me that fitting into my old jeans wasn’t important and that I should splurge on some new jeans to fit my new phase and boost my confidence. Getting a new pair of jeans that fits you will make all the difference. I prefer to stick with anything high rise that offers support and a little more on the straight leg side to offer comfort.

Review: “I had a baby in March and the high rise doesn’t create an unflattering cut into my hips. I feel like they flatter more then most jeans. And they’re so comfortable.”

Now that you have a baby you’ve probably realized that you need to carry a lot of “stuff” everytime you leave the house. I don’t know why I didn’t realize that I did not have to carry around a big bulky diaper bag that was marketed to me in the baby section. You can carry any bag you want! Here are some cute diaper bag options that’ll actually compliment your outfit.

We all know the struggle of trying to get out of the door with a baby, trying to make sure you have everything from diapers, to bottles, extra clothes, toy all while trying to get out the door before baby needs a new diaper or feeding. It should honestly be part of the olympics in all honesty. Making one step easier for yourself and getting some easy to slip on, versatile shoes is a must. Here are some of my favorite easy shoes that go with everything.
